A Gift for Cranberry Street

Years ago, in the tiny village of Golden Grapes, there stood a cluster of beautiful,
brightly painted cottages along a pebble and cobblestone road known as Cranberry
Street. At the end of Cranberry Street lived the Goodtree’s, a wealthy family
who were very private and hardly ever socialized except for the one time of year
when they would gather together with the rest of the Villager’s to celebrate the
approaching holiday season. They did this by decorating the entire length of
Cranberry Street with the most beautiful and original hand made ornaments you
could imagine. Every holiday season people from other villages miles away would
travel to Cranberry Street just to see the winter leafs made of crystal, the tinted
glass hearts, finely painted winter pine with candles that glowed throughout the
night. At the entrance to Cranberry Street high atop an old chestnut tree sat a star
made of brass and silver. This star was known as the Welcome Star that shined
bright enough to show the way for anyone who might be lost on a dark night.

Sadly one winter right before the holiday festivities, a terrible illness struck the
Goodtree family with only one member, Mrs. Goodtree, surviving. Instead of
allowing Mrs. Goodtree to face the heartbreaking tragedy of losing her family all
by herself, the Villager’s came together and built a sacred resting place made of
the finest stone and iron ever used. Mrs. Goodtree was so taken by this gesture
of kindness that she decided to share her entire fortune with the people of Golden
Grapes with only one condition, that anyone could have anything they needed as
long as they asked. The grateful Villager’s gave Mrs. Goodtree the beloved title
of Mother as a gesture of thanks. Thanks to Mother Goodtree, no one wanted or
needed anything that season. People were happy to share whatever they had even
with strangers just passing through. This wonderful feeling of community during
holiday time soon became a traditional way of life all year long.

Then late one night, while Mother Goodtree slept in her bed, Mister Buggle, the
villager elder who thought that the holiday festivities were a real waste of time
that made Cranberry Street too overcrowded and too commercial, snuck into the
basement and took the special box containing the Welcome Star. Since he never
believed in celebrating or sharing anything with others anyway, Mister Buggle
decided that by taking the Welcome Star no one would no longer be interested in
celebrating. He crept into the basement and placed the Welcome Star under his
furry coat and slipped out of the house into the darkness.

The next morning when some of the villager’s came to call on Mother Goodtree,
they discovered something alarming and mysterious. As if by waving a magic
wand, Mother Goodtree had vanished. Word spread quickly through the village.
Up and down Cranberry Street everyone was asking the same question.“What
happened to Mother Goodtree?” By the end of the day, one of the villagers had
noticed that Mister Buggle had also disappeared. No one could understand why
one who was so caring and giving would simply vanish at the same time as someone
so selfish and mean. There were so many stories running around of how and what
had actually happened. Most of the Villager’s believed that Mister Buggle was
somehow responsible and might’ve also had something to do with the disappearance
of Mother Goodtree. As the days went by the rumors became even crazier. Some
of the Villager’s were calling Mister Buggle a Witch with magical powers that he
used to capture Mother Goodtree and steal the Welcome Star. Other’s said that
Mother Goodtree wandered off by herself into the early morning mist to search for
the Welcome Star, became lost and could not find her way home. And still other’s
believed that Mother Goodtree did not vanish at all and was keeping Mister Buggle
prisoner somewhere in her house as punishment for breaking her only rule.

But as the seasons and the years passed and the fortune left by Mother Goodtree
slowly disappeared, the villager’s began to isolate themselves from one another.
They would argue and fight whenever anyone found something of value. Things
that were once shared now became objects of private possession. People would
watch, worry and wait to see who might leave anything behind that could later be
claimed for themselves. With so much selfishness and mistrust, the villager’s soon
found themselves locked inside their cottages afraid to come out and now too poor to
move away. Eventually all of the once beautiful cottages became broken, crumbling
shells turning Cranberry Street into a place now called Dog Bone Alley. Now with
no one willing or wanting to celebrate the holiday season, it seemed as though the
joy and goodness that brought so many people together was now gone forever.

Then early on the first really cold morning of the winter season as a thin layer of
frost decorated the cobblestones and pebbles with tiny drops of misty white glass,
the sound of the mailman’s truck caused Jamal and his sister Leenah to jump from
their beds and rush to the window. As they watched the mail truck rumble down to
the end of Cranberry street and stop in front of the old Goodtree house, they looked
at one another wondering why the mailman would stop there. They continued to
watch as the mailman emerged from the back of his truck with a brightly colored
gift box tied with the loveliest, brightest gold ribbon they had ever seen. Jamal and
Leenah were even more puzzled as they watched the mailman walk up to the house
and gently place the gift box on top of a cluster of pine cones that had been blown
close together at the foot of the front door. Just by looking at the crumbling walls
and broken windows surely the mailman must’ve known that no one had lived there
for a very long time.

Jamall and Leenah watched as the mail truck drove away leaving the lovely gift
behind. They quickly dressed and ran down to the end of Cranberry Street stopping
at the end of the flat, grey stone path leading to the front door.

Jamall and Leenah looked around then slowly approached the finely wrapped
package for a closer inspection. They noticed that although the package was
addressed to Cranberry Street, there was no house number and no name.“Do you
think it’s a Hannukah gift?” asked Leenah. “I’m not sure,” replied Jamall. “Maybe
it’s an early Christmas gift,” Leenah suggested. “Do you think Mother Goodtree
ever celebrated Kwanzaa?” Jamall asked. Leenah and Jamall continued to look at
the gift but would not dare touch it because of Mother Goodtree’s rule that was still
respected and obeyed..and yet their curious questions prevented them from walking
away and leaving the gift box in it’s place.

Who would send such a beautiful gift to a street with no number and a house with
no name?

..to be continued

Happy Holidays
Alicia

…The Two Kingdoms..a parable..

"I really love the way stories, like songs, can carry a message so strong, so loud and clear it rings in your ears and echos in the mind.

Here's another one. I hope you feel this like I do!

With love...

…The Two Kingdoms..a parable..

Once there were two kingdoms divided by a long and very high mountain ridge.
In one Kingdom lived a population of young, ferocious Warriors who defeated and conquered other nations. Although this kingdom consisted of a proud and mighty society, their constant and continued conflicts in war resulted in life spans where no one survived past the age of thirty.

On the other side of the mountain, in another Kingdom, a society of childless Elders lived in quiet and reverent peace, planting and cultivating crops while tending herds of sheep, goats and cattle.

Separated by such a vast mountainous region of barren rock and snow, the two Kingdoms knew very little of one another with only the handed down tales and shabby rumors passed along by wayward traveler’s as their only source of awareness.

One year, a great drought fell upon the Kingdom of young Warriors, devastating most of their crops and livestock. As the bitter cold of winter fell upon the Warrior kingdom, they began to burn everything to keep warm while killing what livestock remained for food. Eventually the youthful Warriors found themselves surrounded by the walls of suspicion and resentment. As the teeth of the famine dug deeper into their bellies, the shadow of chaos and desperation appeared even darker in the eyes of the young Warriors, as it hovered above their heads like the steel blades used in battles.

A meeting was held among the leaders to decide whether or not to attack the kingdom of Elders. Not knowing what to expect and having never actually seen an Elder, there was uncertainty that there would be enough Warriors strong enough to fight. It was eventually decided that an emissary would be sent bringing the finest sword and shield as a symbol of strength to hopefully intimidate the Elders into submission thereby avoiding a battle they might not win.

Passing through the kingdom of the Elders one day, another wayward traveler told of the great famine that had fallen upon the warrior kingdom. He told of how he barely escaped from the nearly barbaric behavior of the soldiers and of hearing a rumor that a Warrior would be sent to investigate the strength and resources of the kingdom.

Fearing that the daily plumes of burning earth could possibly be the warnings of an attack, the Elders gathered in council to debate whether or not to send food and supplies to the starving Warriors before the arrival of their emissary, in the hope that it would prevent him from crossing the mountain into their kingdom.

Also fearing the unknown ways of the Warrior kingdom and having never seen a Warrior, the Elders thought it best to send their own emissary to discover the reality of this unseen peril, with food and supplies that would convince the Warriors they posed no threat and only wished to live in peace.

Five days and nights eventually brought the two emissaries to the top of the mountain ridge. The emissary from the Warrior kingdom gazed with amazement at the acres of bountiful crops and wildlife that stretched as far as his tearful eyes could see. Weak and exhausted, the emissary slowly descended into the lush valley toward the Lodge of the Councils. Collapsing at the door of the Lodge of the Councils, the Warrior emissary was quickly taken in and cared for with food, medicine and fresh clothing.

Meanwhile, not far from where his fellow emissary stood, the Elder emissary looked down into the barren valley of burned wood, cold stone houses and metal monuments of war. The emissary wept as he looked back at his kingdom, before slowly walking down the side of the mountain into the scorched hell that lay before him. In spite of arriving at the Great Hall of Heroes with food and supplies, the Elder emissary was questioned and, in spite of his offerings, was taken prisoner.

Overwhelmed by the offers of kindness and generosity, the Warrior emissary could hardly speak when asked about the actual conditions of his kingdom. Eventually, the Warrior emissary told the Elders of his nation and the terrible event that had left them at the edge of total devastation. He confessed that his fellow Warriors had considered attacking the Elders in the hope of finding enough resources to keep their people alive, but feared that the Elders would be too strong in their resistance and kill what was left of the Warrior kingdom. The Elders informed the Warrior emissary that they were the only ones left after suffering the cost of a Great War years before, that took the lives of all of their young. For the next several days, the Warrior emissary lived and studied the ways of the Elders and upon his departure was given a document declaring an everlasting peace between the two kingdoms and a book that told the history of the Elders.

Upon the Warrior emissary’s return to the Warrior kingdom, it was learned that the Elder emissary had been taken prisoner. After informing the Warrior Council of his experience with the Elders, the Elder emissary was immediately released and offered escort back to his kingdom. Instead, the Elder informed the warriors that the return trip would be too difficult and if possible preferred to stay and teach the young warriors the culture and traditions of his people.

As the harsh winter slowly gave way to the warmth of Spring, the Warriors began to reap the benefits of the Elder emissary’s teachings as crops returned for a bountiful harvest and weapons used to kill and conquer were re-tooled to farm the land and build new shelters for livestock.

At the end of the first harvest, with the Warriors once again strong and healthy, the leaders of the kingdom asked the Elder emissary in what why could they repay him for the great lessons and service for saving their people. The Elder looked toward the mountain and replied,“You could build a road connecting our two kingdoms.”

The young Warrior’s immediately began to build The Great Road, linking the two kingdoms and before the first snow of the next winter, members of the Elder Kingdom and the Warrior Nation were crossing the mountain ridge exchanging new ideas while discovering the treasures of the past.

May we always remember and keep the generational link between the young and old that forms the eternal circle of life.

Nunca había sentido tanta incredulidad, tanta emoción, humildad, divinidad, fuerza, poder y tantas posibilidades. Nunca había creído en la grandeza y en el eterno poder de un Poder Superior tanto como lo hago ahora.
¡No me puedo creer que sea mío!
¡Oh, me parece que está a punto de surgir una canción!"

Alicia Bloggar"I Feel A Song Coming On" (eng)

Every moment is beautiful; delicious even! Every moment I'm learning and living in a way I never have before. Being present in a way I never have before. Existing in moments I never have before.

Never have I felt so calm, so purposeful in taking the time to truly observe the world around me, to live in it fully and watch it, discuss it, put time toward it. It feels really incredible - so peaceful, so complete and long overdue.

I'm grown, I'm confident, I'm secure, and so blessed to be these things.

I'm most enamored with anatomy at this point. The miracle of the human body. The ability to create all these small amazing machines of veins, capillaries, digestive systems, eyes, ears and noses. I can spend HOURS looking at one little EAR! Have u ever noticed how complex just an ear is? A tiny maze of art. It may sound silly but it's so true. Or a heartbeat? Everyday we wake up and in some way, take for granted the fact that this beautiful pulsating organ in our body is the reason, and yet now that's all I can think of...

And breath; invisible as it may be, how necessary!

Ain't it true that things we really can't see are of the greatest importance?

I've never seen a more beautiful face in my LIFE! The most perfect eyes and beautiful nose, the sweetest lips and skin so soft and kissable!

Never have I felt such disbelief, such awe, humility, godliness, such strength, power and possibility.

I've never believed in greatness and the never ending Higher Power more than now!

And I can't believe he's mine!

Oooh! I feel a song coming on...

When someone sings from their heart, their song is always heard. (eng)

My Dear Friends and Family,

I am so blessed and excited to bring a new life into the world. Like everyone has been telling me it is truly an experience like NO other! I am in awe every day! I wanted to pay tribute to this honor by sharing with you a story that I hope you will read to the children in your life from time to time. It is just a small, humble way of thanking all of you for your continued love and support as I begin this new part of my journey.

With love,
Alicia

Nahray and the Golden Sparrow

Once upon a time, deep in the eastern forest of the great North Woods, there lived a family who possessed special gifts that allowed them to live as one with their natural surroundings providing them with everything they needed.

Cenna, the mother, possessed the gift of growing all the plants and flowers of the forest. Denko, the father, who could not see, possessed the gift of making anything from wood. Thea, the oldest child, possessed the gift of making all sorts of wonderful foods from the herbs and vegetables that grew in the forest and their youngest child, Nahrayy, did not possess any special gifts, but was loved and cared for by the family just the same. Although Nahray knew and felt the love, there were also many moments of sadness. Many times Nahray would walk alone in the forest thinking about and searching for a special gift.

One day while returning from the forest, Nahray heard what sounded like a strange, and frightening melody coming from the trees. Looking up high above on a branch, the child noticed a tiny wing flapping. Quickly standing directly underneath the branch watching carefully as it continued to flutter while singing this very sad song. Straining to look even closer to see just how hurt the little creature really was, Nahray noticed small, shiny, golden tips at the end of the tiny bird’s wings. Nahray knew that the young bird would not live if it fell from the tree but was too afraid to climb that high. With raised arms and opened hands forming a small cup Nahray shouted a promise up to the little bird, “Come on little one, jump, I will catch you!” Suddenly, the young bird stopped fluttering it’s wing and then fell helplessly from the branch all the way down into cupped hands.

At first Nahray thought that the great fall might’ve killed the tiny creature, but surprisingly and with a sigh of relief, the young bird moved it’s good wing ever so slightly as a sign of life. “You are very lucky I came along when I did,” Nahray told the tiny bird before placing it in a bright red hat then quickly returned home to show everyone the small creature that was safely rescued.

“Look,” Nahray announced to the family, “this little bird fell out of a tree right into my hands. Can I keep it?”
“This is a very special bird, Nahray, and you must understand that you have asked to do something very important and quite serious, ” advised Mother Cenna, “What’s that?” Nahray asked. “Are you willing to accept the responsibilities of caring for the precious life of a baby sparrow thatyou have brought from the forest?” mother asked. “Oh yes,” replied Nahray, looking carefully at the Sparrow. “I will do everything I can to save it.”

Nahray’s family decided that they would help their youngest nurse the tiny Sparrow back to good health and return it to the forest. “I will build a small house out of wood to keep it warm,” said Denko the father. “I will make a soft, comfortable nest from the flower pedals in our garden for the Sparrow to sleep in,” added Cenna, the mother. “And I will make very special food using seeds from the flowers and berries,” smiled Thea, the Eldest.

By the next day, the little sparrow was resting in a small wooden cage with soft pedals from roses and daffodils as its bed, with a thimble of seeds to eat at its side. A few days passed when Nahray noticed that not only was the wing of the baby Sparrow not getting better but also it had not eaten any of its food. A few more days passed and the sparrow grew weaker.“I’ve done everything I know how to help the sparrow, Mother,” Nahray sadly exclaimed. “Why is it not getting better?” “Remember Nahray, you have taken a creature of the forest away from its natural place amongst the trees,” the mother reminded. “You have placed it in a cage and fedit strange food. Perhaps you have given it everything but the one thing that it needs,” Nahray’s mother advised. “What shall I do, and where will I find the thing that will make the sparrow well again?” asked Nahray. “Perhaps the answer lies in the forest where you found it,” mother answered.

So the next day, Nahray went into the forest to seek the medicine that might heal the young sparrow.

Walking along, Nahray once again heard a familiar sound, only this time it seemed to be stronger and more musical. Looking up into the sky, Nahray noticed several sparrows circling above the trees making flowing golden circles painted by the tips of their wings. Nahray began to listen more carefully to their dream-like musical sounds that seemed to have an almost human voice. The sparrows slowly drifted downward toward Nahray sitting on a branch directly above. Nahray noticing the beautiful gold tips at the end of their feathers asked,“Who are you?” One of the sparrows flew down further and landed on the smallest branch closest to the ground. The sparrow looked, then smiled inviting Nahray to come closer to the tree. Just at the moment Nahray’s hand touched the trunk of the tree, something magical happened. Nahray realized that the voices of the sparrows were now understandable. As Nahray looked up into the tree, the largest sparrow spoke in a soft, musical tone. “We are the sparrows from the Southern Shores. Not long ago we were flying north when we lost one of our youngest. Have you seen it?” sang the sparrow. “Yes, it was very small and it fell from a tree just like this one,” explained Nahray. “I caught it with my hands and I took it home so that I could heal it’s wing, but nothing seems to help and I’m afraid it might not live,” added Nahray. The family of sparrows looked at one anotherthen at Nahray. “It is listening for our voices,” said one of the sparrows. “There is magical healing power in the song we sing,” another sparrow added. “Can you teach me your song?” Nahray asked. “Yes,” one of the sparrow’s answered, “but you must sing it each morning as the sunrises for the next three days,” insisted the sparrow. With eyes closed Nahray leaned against the tree as the sparrow’s voices created a beautiful melody that seemed to include all the sounds of the forest. When the singing stopped, Nahray returned home and went directly to the baby sparrow’s cage. The tiny bird was hardly breathing, so Nahray stayed up all night watching over it, waiting eagerly for the sun to rise. The next morning, as the first rays of the sun began to light the morning sky, Nahray moved very close to the cage and began to sing the melody learned from the family ofgolden sparrows. As Nahray continued to sing, the baby sparrow began to show signs of life by moving its tiny wings. Cenna entered Nahray’s room and heard the wonderful music. “Where did you learn such beautiful music?” the mother asked. “From the magic sparrows in the forest, Mother. Thisbaby sparrow belongs to them,” Nahray explained. The Mother smiled then invited Nahray to join the family for breakfast. While sitting at the table, Nahray informed the rest of the family of the task that would save the young sparrow. “It is a blessing to know the voices of the Golden Sparrows,” stated Denko, “but you have promised to come with me into the forest tomorrow so that I may gather the special wood I need and I must have you to mark the way,” the father reminded Nahray.

“But father,” cried Nahray, “that may take too long. If I am not back by sunrise, the baby sparrow may not live. I must sing the song I learned from his family for one more sunrise to make him well again. Besides, I made a promise,” Nahray informed his father. “You also made a promise tome before you found the baby sparrow and I expect you to keep it,” insisted Denko .

After breakfast, Nahray sat at the table sad and worried.“What should I do Mother?” Nahray asked. “I promised the Magic Sparrows that I would sing when the sun rises to save their baby, but if I go with Father, I may not be back in time to sing on the sunrise of the third day,” Nahray pleaded. “This is part of the responsibility I told you aboutthe day you brought home the baby sparrow,” exclaimed Cenna. “You must realize that by reaching out to help others in distress, even with the purest of heart, you must be sure that you can really help or you could wind up doing greater harm by not being prepared to follow through,” she added.

The next morning at sunrise, before heading into the forest with his father, Nahray sang the same melody and the tiny sparrow showed even more signs of life and began to eat a small amount of its food. As Nahray and Denko walked along, holding hands and marking the way with small strips of brightly colored cloth, Nahray could not help worrying about the baby sparrow and the shame of breaking a promise to his family. When Nahray and Denko stopped to rest and eat, Nahray’s thoughts turned to that of running back to the house and leaving the father in the woods alone, but realized that doing such a bad thing would only make things much worse. At the place in the forest where the special wood could be found, Nahray watched as Denko carefully touched the differentshapes of wood selecting only the most special pieces he felt he would need. “We will camp here for the night Nahray, then leave at sunrise,” said Denko. That night as Denko slept, Nahray thought again of leaving Denko alone in the forest, knowing that it would be easy to find the way back before sunrise using the cloth marker trail that was made. Just as the light of the campfire had died down to just a slight glow, Nahray slowly and carefully slipped from underneath the blanket. Standing by a tree and looking in the direction of the house, Nahray took the first steps. The sound from thesnap of a large twig underfoot woke Father. “Nahray, is that you?” the father asked. “Yes father, I was just going to place some more wood on the fire,” mumbled Nahray. “Come back to your blanket, it is cold, “ the father ordered. Nahray reluctantly returned to the blanket and ever soquietly cried until sleep came. At sunrise the next morning, while packing up the pieces of wood, Denko noticed Nahray was leaning against a tree, looking in the direction of their house, then watched his child climb on top of a large stone. “What are you doing now Nahray?” ask the father. “I’m ashamed that I did not keep my promise and afraid that the baby sparrow will die.” Nahray sadly replied. “Then you should sing just the same. It will make you feel better that at least you tried,” Denko assured. As the sun became slightly brighter Nahray began to sing with all of his heart, the melody learned from the sparrows. Then Nahray and Denko packed the rest of their belongings and returned home through the forest. As Nahray and Denko neared the house, a familiar sound came from above. Looking up at the sky and seeing only the sun that, by now, had risen high above the trees,Nahray at first imagined that the sounds were simply musical echoes made from the guilt and shame of not keeping the promise to the Golden Sparrow family. But as the sight of their house began to take shape, Nahray could see that Mother was carrying something in her hand that seemed to sway from side to side. Nahray’s heart began to race with joy and excitement as the sight of the birdcage became ever more clear. Nahray rushed to meet Cenna eagerly wanting to hold the small wooden house where a tiny musical sound from the baby Sparrow could be heard. The melody filled Nahray with a kind of happiness never known before. “Look father,” Nahray shouted, “my little sparrow lives and sings as well!” laughed Nahray. “Then perhaps it is time to return it to the place where you found it,” smiled Denko.

So Nahray took the cage and raced into the forest to the place where the baby sparrow was first spotted. As Nahray approached the tree, what seemed to be a chorus of voices coming from not only the tree, but from everywhere in the forest, filled the air. There sitting on the branch were the Golden Sparrows who seemed to smile as Nahray opened the small cage releasing their youngest and now healthy member of the family.“I have to tell you,” Nahray stated with head bowed. “I did not keep my promise. I only sang to your baby sparrow two of the mornings.” “That is true,” stated the largest of the sparrows. “But on the third morning as the sun began to rise in the sky, we heard your voice as you sang with all your heart from deep in the forest,” stated the sparrow. “How is that possible?” asked Nahray. “When someone sings from their heart, their song is always heard,” the sparrow assured Nahray. Nahray smiled while watching the baby sparrow cuddle close to one of the other members of itsfamily. “Perhaps when our youngest is a bit stronger, we will return one day to visit and teach you a new song,” smiled the largest sparrow. “It will be our way of thanking you for respecting the forest and all of the lives within it,” the sparrow added. The baby sparrow looked down at Nahray and smiled while singing a few soft musical notes. “Goodbye little sparrow,” said Nahray waving goodbye and watching the family of Golden Sparrows as they flew up into the clouds.

The next day Nahray returned to the forest and the tree where the baby sparrow was first seen. Nahray sat under the tree and soon several creatures from the forest gathered around him, listening as the story of the Golden Sparrows, told as only the youngest child with a special gift could..with a song.

Alicia bloggar om"Black Ball 2010" (eng)

It's possible that I was floating at this year's KCA Black Ball. No, maybe a better description is that I was literally LEVITATING!

Many of you know that the Black Ball we do every year to Benefit my organization, Keep a Child Alive, is our annual fund-raiser to continue to provide medicine to children and families who have AIDS and wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise. We also are able to continue all the surrounding care that goes with that, like building clinics in places that have never had one, scaling up organizations that already exist but need support, building orphanages and safe places for the many children who have lost their parents to the disease and providing food and care, because what good is medicine without nourishment?

These are some of the things that the Black Ball helps to achieve.

So, as I was saying, many of you know about the Black Ball but maybe what you don't know is just how much it gives me the chills to be a part of something so officially meaningful!

Also, as an artist it is a TREMENDOUS thrill to be able to bring onto the stage people who would normally NEVER touch the same stage on the same night and create a once in a life time experience that you have never seen before. And it's pretty much guaranteed that you will never see again.

Some of the past people that I've been blessed to bring on stage have been Lenny Kravitz, Usher, Roy Ayers, Sheryl Crow, Gwen Stephanie, Bono, Kathleen Battle, David Bowie, John Mayer and so many more.

But honestly, to bring out Janelle Monae, Jay-Z and SADE this time!!!!!!!!! Wow! SADE??????? This was one of the most exciting moments of my life!

There are certain people who you just KNOW their spirit; they have an effect on you and impact you so much so that you can just feel their pureness - even if you've only see them occasionally on TV, through Youtube searches or gazing at their album cover for extended periods of time, as if you'll find something you've never seen before. Anyway, I think you know what I mean. This is how I feel about Sade!

At every Black Ball I've done a duet with an artist that is either totally unexpected or just something I love so much from the artist's catalogue that to do it with them is just incredible for me!

So when I was trying to think of the ONE song that would be perfect for Sade and me to sing, it was VERY difficult!! I mean! There are SO many favorites!! No Ordinary Love??? Cherish the Day?? Pearls??? The choices were endless.

Nonetheless, I chose the song below. One of my all time favorites in the UNIVERSE!!! And I felt as if I wouldn't be able to keep my feet on the ground or that someone had better pinch me cause this was unreal!!

This was a moment in my life I will NEVER forget!! So even if you couldn't be there at this year's Black Ball.....now in a little way, you were there....

Thank you for your love and your support! The work that Keep A Child Alive does is truly unique, meaningful and direct!!

Ok Alicia, breathe! ;-)

Enjoy this sneak peak of one of the many incredible moments of the night!

Alicia bloguje:"I Feel A Song Coming On"

Thanking all of your support!

My Dear Friends and Family,I am so blessed and excited to bring a new life into the world. With love,AliciaNahray and the Golden SparrowOnce upon a time, deep in the eastern forest of the great North Woods, there lived a family who possessed special gifts that allowed them to live as one with their natural surroundings providing them with everything they needed.Cenna, the mother, possessed the gift of growing all the plants and flowers of the forest. “You are very lucky I came along when I did,” Nahray told the tiny bird before placing it in a bright red hat then quickly returned home to show everyone the small creature that was safely rescued.“Look,” Nahray announced to the family, “this little bird fell out of a tree right into my hands. Can I keep it?”“This is a very special bird, Nahray, and you must understand that you have asked to do something very important and quite serious, ” advised Mother Cenna, “What’s that?” Nahray asked. “Are you willing to accept the responsibilities of caring for the precious life of a baby sparrow that you have brought from the forest?” mother asked. “Oh yes,” replied Nahray, looking carefully at the Sparrow. “I will do everything I can to save it.”Nahray’s family decided that they would help their youngest nurse the tiny Sparrow back to good health and return it to the forest. “I will build a small house out of wood to keep it warm,” said Denko the father. “I will make a soft, comfortable nest from the flower pedals in our garden for the Sparrow to sleep in,” added Cenna, the mother. “And I will make very special food using seeds from the flowers and berries,” smiled Thea, the Eldest.By the next day, the little sparrow was resting in a small wooden cage with soft pedals from roses and daffodils as its bed, with a thimble of seeds to eat at its side. A few days passed when Nahray noticed that not only was the wing ofthe baby Sparrow not getting better but also it had not eaten any of its food. A few more days passed and the sparrow grew weaker. “I’ve done everything I know how to help the sparrow, Mother,” Nahray sadly exclaimed. “Why is it not getting better?” “Remember Nahray, you have taken a creature of the forest away from its natural place amongst the trees,” the mother reminded. “You have placed it in a cage and fed it strange food. Perhaps you have given it everything but the one thing that it needs,” Nahray’s mother advised. “What shall I do, and where will I find the thingthat will make the sparrow well again?” asked Nahray. “Perhaps the answer lies in the forest where you found it,” mother answered. So the next day, Nahray went into the forest to seek the medicine that might heal the young sparrow.Walking along, Nahray once again heard a familiar sound, only this time it seemed to be stronger and more musical. Looking up into the sky, Nahray noticed several sparrows circling above the trees making flowing golden circles painted by the tips of their wings. Nahray began to listen more carefully to their dream-like musical sounds that seemed to have analmost human voice. The sparrows slowly drifted downward toward Nahray sitting on a branch directly above. Nahray noticing the beautiful gold tips at the end of their feathers asked, “Who are you?” One of the sparrows flew down further and landed on the smallest branch closest to the ground. “I caught it with myhands and I took it home so that I could heal it’s wing, but nothing seems to help and I’m afraid it might not live,” added Nahray. The family of sparrows looked at one another then at Nahray. “It is listening for our voices,” said one of the sparrows. “There is magical healing power inthe song we sing,” another sparrow added. “Can you teach me your song?” Nahray asked. “Yes,” one of the sparrow’s answered, “but you must sing it each morning as the sun rises for the next three days,” insisted the sparrow. With eyes closed Nahray leaned against the tree as the sparrow’s voices created a beautiful melody that seemed to include all the sounds of the forest. When the singing stopped, Nahray returned home and went directly to the baby sparrow’s cage. The tiny bird was hardly breathing, so Nahray stayed up all night watching over it, waiting eagerly for thesun to rise. The next morning, as the first rays of the sun began to light the morning sky, Nahray moved very close to the cage and began to sing the melody learned from the family of golden sparrows. As Nahray continued to sing, the baby sparrow began to show signs of life by moving its tiny wings. Cenna entered Nahray’s room and heard the wonderful music. “Where did you learn such beautiful music?” the mother asked. “From the magic sparrows in the forest, Mother. This baby sparrow belongs to them,” Nahray explained. The Mother smiled then invited Nahray to join the family for breakfast. While sitting at the table, Nahray informed the rest of the family of the task that would save the young sparrow. “It is a blessing to know the voices of the Golden Sparrows,” stated Denko, “but you have promised to come with me into the forest tomorrow so that I may gather the special wood I need and I must have you to mark the way,” the father reminded Nahray.“But father,” cried Nahray, “that may take too long. If I am not back by sunrise, the baby sparrow may not live. I must sing the song I learned from his family for one more sunrise to make him well again. Besides, I made a promise,” Nahray informed his father. “You also made a promise to me before you found the baby sparrow and I expect you to keep it,” insisted Denko . After breakfast, Nahray sat at the table sad and worried. “What should I do Mother?” Nahray asked. “I promised the Magic Sparrows that I would sing when the sun rises to save their baby, but if I go with Father, I may not be back in time to sing on the sunrise of the third day,” Nahray pleaded. “This is part of the responsibility I told you about the day you brought home the baby sparrow,” exclaimed Cenna. “Youmust realize that by reaching out to help others in distress, even with the purest of heart, you must be sure that you can really help or you could wind up doing greater harm by not being prepared to follow through,” she added. The next morning at sunrise, before heading into the forest with hisfather, Nahray sang the same melody and the tiny sparrow showed even more signs of life and began to eat a small amount of its food. As Nahray and Denko walked along, holding hands and marking the way with small strips of brightly colored cloth, Nahray could not help worrying about the baby sparrowand the shame of breaking a promise to his family. When Nahray and Denko stopped to rest and eat, Nahray’s thoughts turned to that of running back to the house and leaving the father in the woods alone, but realized that doing such a bad thing would only make things much worse. At the place in the forest where the special wood could be found, Nahray watched as Denko carefully touched the different shapes of wood selecting only the most special pieces he felt he would need. The sound from the snap of a large twig underfoot woke Father. “Nahray, is that you?” the father asked. “Yes father, I was just going to place some more wood on the fire,” mumbled Nahray. “Come back to your blanket, it is cold, “ the father ordered. Nahray reluctantly returned to the blanket and ever so quietly cried until sleep came. As Nahray and Denko neared the house, a familiar sound camefrom above. Looking up at the sky and seeing only the sun that, by now, had risen high above the trees, Nahray at first imagined that the sounds were simply musical echoes made from the guilt and shame of not keeping the promise to the Golden Sparrow family. But as the sight of their house began totake shape, Nahray could see that Mother was carrying something in her hand that seemed to sway from side to side. There sitting onthe branch were the Golden Sparrows who seemed to smile as Nahray opened the small cage releasing their youngest and now healthy member of the family. “I have to tell you,” Nahray stated with head bowed. Nahray smiled while watching the baby sparrow cuddle close to one of the other members of its family.

When someone sings from their heart, their song is always heard.

With raised arms and opened hands forming a small cup Nahray shouted a promise up to the little bird, “Come on little one, jump, I will catch you!” Suddenly, the young birdstopped fluttering it’s wing and then fell helplessly from the branch all the way down into cupped hands.

Nahray realizedthat the voices of the sparrows were now understandable. The family of sparrows looked at one another then at Nahray. “It is listening for our voices,” said one of the sparrows. “There is magical healing power in the song we sing,” another sparrow added. “Can you teach me your song?” Nahray asked. “Yes,” one of the sparrow’s answered, “but you must sing it each morning as the sun risesfor the next three days,” insisted the sparrow. “It is a blessing to know the voices of the Golden Sparrows,” statedDenko, “but you have promised to come with me into the forest tomorrow so that I may gather the special wood I need and I must have you to mark the way,” the father reminded Nahray.

“But father,” cried Nahray, “that may take too long. If I am not back by sunrise, the baby sparrow may not live. I must sing the song I learned from his family for one more sunrise to make him well again. Besides, I made a promise,” Nahray informed his father. “You also made a promise to me before you found the baby sparrow and I expect you to keep it,” insisted Denko .
